From 30 September to 4 October, the ERC Shivadharma Project (Translocal Identities. The Śivadharma and the Making of Regional Religious Traditions in Premodern South Asia), based in Naples, Italy, held a workshop at the Department of Indology. The project has maintained an excellent working relationship with our department for many years. Florinda De Simini, Kengo Harimoto, Csaba Kiss and Luca Piscopo from L'Orientale were our guests, and former and current students and staff of our department joined the workshop. During the readings, texts researched by the project were discussed, such as the Śivadharmaśāstra and its medieval commentary, more specifically the passages related to the oṃ namaḥ śivāya mantra, and the Haracaritacintāmaṇi, a 13th century Kashmiri collection legends, of which Judit Törzsök is currently preparing a critical edition. The workshop was extremely inspiring and useful for all participants and will certainly be followed by many similar programmes in the future.
