Our department had been established in 1873 with the purpose of research in Indo-European linguistics. As the only department in Hungary dedicated to India till date, we aim at sharing the deepest knowledge about Indian languages and literatures, history and art.

हमारे विभाग की स्थापना १८७३ में, भारोपीय भाषा-परिवार पर अनुसंधान के उद्देश्य से की गई थी। हंगरी में आज तक भारत का अकेला अध्ययन केन्द्र होकर हम भारत के साहित्य, इतिहास और कला का गहनतम ज्ञान प्राप्त करवाने को नितान्त समर्पित रहते हैं।

During our Indian Studies BA course we pay equal attention to teaching Sanskrit and Hindi, while the students of our MA course must choose a specialization. Besides the regular training in these languages, their philology and in the history of India’s art, belief systems and literature, we also sometimes offer classes in Urdu, Pali and Tamil to show the richness of India’s culture.

बी॰ए॰ भारत अध्ययन में संस्कृत और हिन्दी पर एक जितना ज़ोर दिया जाता है, जबकि एम॰ए॰ के छात्रों को इन दोनों में से एक भाषा पर अधिक ध्यान देना पड़ता है। भाषा, पाठों के अध्ययन, दर्शन, कला और धर्मों के इतिहास जैसी नियमित कक्षाओं के अतिरिक्त भारत की संस्कृति की समृद्धि दर्शाने हेतु समय-समय पर हम उर्दू, पालि और तमिल से भी अपने छात्रों का परिचय करवाते हैं।

Mastering classical Sanskrit is commendable to students of Tibetan and Chinese Studies, Philosophy and History of Art, while modern Hindi goes well with Iranian and Arab Studies, Cultural Anthropology, moreover it is highly useful to students of International Relations, Economics and Business Administration.

प्राचीन संस्कृत भाषा तिब्बती तथा चीनी अध्ययन के अलावा दर्शन और कला के इतिहास के विद्यार्थियों के लिए भी विशेष लाभदायक है। अपने समय की हिन्दी भाषा का फ़ारसी तथा अरबी भाषा और सांस्कृतिक मानवशास्त्र से ही नहीं, अन्तरराष्ट्रीय संबन्ध, अर्थशास्त्र और एम.बी.ए. जैसे पाठ्यक्रमों के साथ भी बहुत अच्छा तालमेल है।
