- Between 2002 and 2006 the Department conducted a research project supported by the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund. The objective of the project was to prepare critical editions and annotated translations of Sanskrit and medieval Hindi texts. The project comprised the following subjects fields:
a. critical edition, translation, and analysis of Sanskrit texts (texts on aesthetics and literary criticism, Tantric Śaivism, early Buddhist tantra, yoga-upaniṣads); researchers: Csaba Dezső, Judit Törzsök, Gergely Hidas, Csaba Kiss, Máté Ittzés;
b. critical edition, translation and analysis of medieval Hindi texts (the Kavitāvalī of Tulsīdās); researchers: Imre Bangha, Mária Négyesi, Dániel Balogh, Eszter Berki, Eszter Somogyi, Gábor Karsai.
- Between 2009 and 2013 Dr. Csaba Dezső conducted a research project “Fabulous Creatures in Ancient and Early Medieval Indian Literature”, supported by the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund. Between 2012 and 2015 he was the recipient of the Bolyai Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and pursued research on Kālidāsa’s Raghuvaṃśa and its medieval commentaries.
- Dr. Máté Ittzés conducted a research project on “Historical Linguistic Investigations in Vedic Old Indo-Aryan”, supported by the Bolyai Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sicences, between 2008 and 2011. Between 2012 and 2016 his research on “Verbs and Light Verb Constructions in Ancient Indo-European Languages (with Special Reference to the Vedic Language)” was supported by the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund.
- Between 2013 and 2016 Dr. Gergely Hidas conducted a research study on Buddhist Dhāraṇīsaṃgraha collections with the support of the Bolyai Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
- Four graduates of the Department have participated in the ERC Synergy Project “Asia Beyond Boundaries: Religion, Region, Language and the State” (2014–2020): Dr. Csaba Dezső as Research Affiliate, studying the ethos of royalty in Gupta period literature, Dr. Dániel Balogh and Dr. Gergely Hidas as Research Assistants, the former studying inscriptions and building a database, the latter editing Buddhist dhāraṇī manuscripts, and Dr. Csaba Kiss as external Research Assistant, working on inscriptions and Śaiva sources.
