Visiting professors | अतिथि आचार्य

According to the Educational Exchange Programme between India and Hungary the Indian Council for Cultural Relations has been sending a Visiting Professor (in Hindi) since 1992 to the Department. During these more than 25 years distinguished and excellent professors of Hindi have joined our Department. We have worked out and developed Hindi Studies in such a way that the Hindi Chair has become an integral part of our staff, and his/her work is essential for Hindi Studies in our Department.

 

Dr. Asghar Wajahat of the Jamia Millia University, Delhi, joined the Department in 1992 as the first visiting professor for a period of five years. He introduced Urdu studies to the syllabus and made highly appreciated contributions in the teaching of Hindi literature. He is a distinguished creative writer in Hindi. Some of his works have been published in other languages, including English and Hungarian. He also jointly translated contemporary Hungarian short stories into Hindi. His book written on his five-year-long stay in Budapest, Swarg Mein Panch Din (Five Days in Heaven) has just been published in Delhi.

 

Dr. Laxman Singh Bisht “Batrohi” from Nainital University was our second visiting professor under the Indo-Hungarian Exchange Pro­gramme. During his three-years tenure he prepared an “Anthology of Modern Hindi Poetry”, which we currently use as a study-aid. Apart from being an expert on modern Indian literature, Dr. Bisht is also a well-known creative writer.

 

Dr. Ravi Prakash Gupta of the Central Institute of Hindi, Agra, was visiting professor at the Department between 2000 and 2003. His field of research is Hindi linguistics. He had taught Hindi to non-Hindi speakers in Poland before coming to Budapest and acquired expertise in this field. During his stay he prepared, together with the students, a “Hindi Conversation Course Book” for intermediate students.

 

 

Prof. Umashankar Upadhyay of Pune University joined the Depart­ment in February 2005. During his two-year tenure he prepared an “Anthology of Medieval Hindi Poetry” together with the students.

 

Dr. Pramod Kumar Sharma, the next visiting professor was appointed in January 2008. He not only was one of the best among our visiting professors, but he also launched a wall magazine with the title Prayās in January 2009. This small journal reached more than 25 issues, and it is available online (elteprayashi.blogspot.com). Dr. Sharma was the first professor to introduce our students to the Hindi world of the internet. At present he is the regional director in Delhi for the Central Hindi Institute.

 

Dr. Vijaya Sati, who has been lecturing at the renowned Hindu College of the Delhi University for four decades (retiring in 2020), arrived to Budapest in January 2011. The time she spent at our Department was outstandingly fruitful and we were very pleased to be acquainted with a person of such academic merit, teaching capacity and warmth of personality.

 

Dr. Rama Yadav, lecturer at Miranda House of Delhi University, taught at the Department in the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15. The students staged some small plays with her help such as Akbar-Bīrbal stories and a dance-play on Mīrā Bāī.

 

Dr. Dileep Shakya from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi was visiting professor of Hindi from January 2016 until July 2018. He wrote several poems, taught Hindi poetry, nevertheless his classes on Hindi films were the best received by the students.
