7th Brajbhasha and Early Hindi Online Workshop 2020

Organised by the South Asia Research Cluster, Wolfson College, University of Oxford

Due to Coronavirus, the 2020 Brajbhasha and Early Hindi Workshop will be held online for two weeks, 13-25 July, with one 90-minute reading session each working day.

As in previous workshops, we are going to read and discuss texts on which a particular academic is working. Academics and students with a solid foundation in Brajbhasha or another form of early Hindi are welcome to join.

Dr. Richard Williams, Prof. Heidi Pauwels, Prof. Anne Murphy, Dr. Piotr Borek, Prof. Eva de Clercq, Dr. Christine Marrewa-Karwoski, and Prof. Imre Bangha are among the session leaders. Details on the individual sessions will follow soon.

Sessions in the first week will start at 3pm BST (7am in PST, 10am in EST, 7:30pm in India, 10pm in China, and 11pm in Japan, 12pm in Canberra).

In the second week, we will meet either at 2pm BST or 3pm BST to be decided later.

This event will allow people to audit, or attend only the first or the second week. Full participation will require you to thoroughly prepare for each session you attend and be ready to read and translate when your turn comes. Auditing only requires familiarity with Brajbhasha or any other form of Old Hindi but not specific preparation.

The workshop will be free of charge but a 10-40 Euro voluntary donation is suggested to help charities fighting poverty under Covid-19 in India.

Participants are asked to fill in the Early Hindi Workshop Application Form and send it to julie.vig@utoronto.ca  by 30 June 2020.
